BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State’s Shmya Ward its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Alcorn State’s Kirdis Clark its SWAC Women’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Jan. 23-25.
Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) averaged 19.5 points and 12 rebounds per game in a pair of contests this week for Alabama State, who finished 1-1 on the week. The junior scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Southern and recorded her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds against Alcorn State. She also finished the week with five blocked shots, including four against Southern on Monday night. Ward finished the week shooting 63.6 (14-for-22) percent from the floor in the two games.
Clark (Natchez, Miss.) paced the Lady Braves with 16 points on 6-19 shooting from the field, making a pair of three point attempts and a pair from the foul line. She also added a rebound, two assists and a steal in 31 minutes of play. She finished strong in the second half playing 18 minutes and leading the way with 11 points as she attempted to help Alcorn State rally in the second half.
