NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 31, 2019 — Norfolk State University senior guard Steven Whitley and Coppin State University junior guard/forward Koby Thomas are this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, it was announced today, while Bethune-Cookman University senior forward/center Cletrell Pope is the Defensive Player of the Week.  The league’s Rookie of the Week honor was tabbed by freshman forward Harry Morrice of North Carolina A&T State University.

Whitley (G, 6-3, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Spartans’ narrow four-point loss to Stony Brook on Sunday. He also dished out eight assists in that contest, while also making two steals.

Thomas (G/F, 6-6, Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocked shots over two games during the past week, including a loss at Mount St. Mary’s on Friday and a loss at Fordham on Saturday. He had 14 points and 11 rebounds against Fordham and with 17 points and three steals against Mount St. Mary’s.

Pope (F/C, 6-9, Sr., Northport, Ala.) grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked two shots in the Wildcats’ loss to Saint Louis on Friday. He scored 11 points and made one assist against the Billikens.

Morrice (F, 6-11, Fr., United Kingdom) had nine points and five rebounds in the Aggies’ loss at Illinois on Friday.

Other Top Performers

Wali Parks (B-CU) scored 16 points, snatched six rebounds and dished out four assists against Saint Louis.

Andrew Robinson (CSU) had 13 points at Mount St. Mary’s and a team-high 15 points at Fordham.

Devin Haygood (NCAT) had a total of 12 points, four rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals in the Aggies’ loss at Illinois.
