Mike Daum didn’t play his college basketball at the University of Illinois, but that didn’t stop the South Dakota State University product from fitting in just fine with his Illini counterparts.
Daum scored nine points in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 21 points to lead House of ‘Paign past War Tampa, 76-53.
Daum, who also led the way with 13 rebounds in the win for House of Paign, deflected the praise to his teammates.
“You can just tell that we have a special group of guys who will do whatever it takes to win,” said Daum.
Andres Feliz chipped in with 20 points, and Malcolm Hill added 15 of his own, in the win for House of Paign.
“I can’t say enough about these guys,” said House of Paign coach Mike Latulip. “It’s really all about these guys.”
On the flip side, while the War Tampa players were disappointed with their performance, they were thankful for the support from Auburn fans.
“We appreciate y’all for all the support y’all gave us,” Horace Spencer said. “With you we wouldn’t be here. I’m always proud to say I’m an Auburn man.”
Desean Murray paced the offensive attack with 13 points in the losing effort for War Tampa, which hit just 13% (3-for-22) of its three-point attempts.
House of Paign advances to face defending champion Carmen’s Crew on July 8th at 4:00 PM EST.
