Semmes, AL – Semmes has a population of about 5,200 a small but tight community in the Western Mobile County. The city of Semmes has a high school football team Mary G. Montgomery Vikings. Vikings history was that they were 0-8 in the playoffs in over 6 decades (60 years). This season they have turned things around going 10-0 for the regular season.

The Vikings just played their first round playoff game last night against the Dothan Wolves and what a game it was. The Wolves had the Vikings on the ropes in the 1st quarter outscoring the Vikings 13-0. In my Lee Corso voice “Not So Fast” my friend. The Vikings #4 J.T. Busby comes up with an interception in the 2nd quarter which changed the momentum of the game. Touchdown Vikings!!!! by #18 Shandrell Harris the Vikings shutdown the Wolves offense in the 2nd quarter and went into halftime still down 13-7.

Start of the 2nd half neither team could put points on the board, so hear comes the 4th quarter. At the 9:14 mark in the 4th quarter the Vikings strike with a touchdown run by #10 Jayvian Hawthorne. The Vikings take the lead 14-13 for the first time in the game. The Vikings have the crowd cheering them on, but plenty of time remaining in the game for the Wolves to strike. But it would be the Vikings that strike again with a fumble recovery by #4 J.T. Busby and he get’s it into the redzone.

Second play after the turnover by Dothan, #18 Shondell Harris punches it in from 10 yards out for the Vikings 21-13. Dothan gets the ball down in the redzone in the last 5 seconds of the game, can Dothan punch it in to possibly go into overtime. The snap rolls out looking to pass has a man in the back of the endzone but he’s out of bounds. The Vikings Win!!!!
